First, not trying to shame.
Second, this says a lot about the problem in and near Boston and how no one has been able to get a handle on it.
Third, I’m surprised no one has mentioned it in r/MBTA.
I’ve never seen this before. I ride the Red Line regularly and see homeless folk sleeping across two and three and four seats, during rush hour.
I know what you’re saying, “you fortunate suburbanites should be aware of your privilege.”
I try to be.
But passengers deserve to sit on these trains for rides that keep getting longer and longer. Some folks need to sit.
The homeless also need facilities.
Perhaps two-person crews limited this before? I’m sure train operators now are overwhelmed.
(This all goes back to the Long Island Bridge being torn down and services being relocated to the mainland. We can’t hide our problem anymore in the middle of the harbor. We’ve had 10 years to do something about it. That’s a discussion for elsewhere.)
