This morning on my way to work I noticed the check engine light was on. The car was running great but I found that the gas cap was loose and I know that can trigger the light to come on. I filled up the tank, tightened the cap securely, and parked the car for the day. This afternoon, on my way home the light was still on. If the gas cap was the issue, should the light have gone off by now or does it take some time? Would it be worthwhile to disconnect the battery to reset the computer and then see if the light comes back on before taking it in to the shop?
