What's up everyone, long post ahead.
I purchased an '18 Hatchback (1st brand new car) last May in Maryland, (with 19k on the clock currently). Since new, I've had two ongoing problems: A nasty rattle in the driver's side door and the BSM system. Let's start with the BSM system.
Whenever a car passes my blind spot on my left side, the system turns on and off normally. On my right hand side however, a car will get into my blind spot and leave, and the BSM light will still stay on as if a car is still in the blind spot. For those with the BSM, you all know how annoying this can get when your car is beeping at you with no actual car in its blind spot.
Waited til my first service to check the problem out & because the Smart City Braking light was on as well. They replaced the sensor on the front windshield and said the problem will go away because the BSM and Smart City system supposedly work together. Fine. The problem never went away though.
I end up moving to California and visit the local dealership here to see if I can get this problem fixed before my warranty is up, since I'm putting miles on this thing everyday. I explain the problem to the service manager and mechanic who immediately tells my it looks like my bumper has been repainted... yup my mouth dropped to the floor as you can imagine but I chose to remain calm. He tells me to call up the original dealership, who of course says the last information they have on file on file is my 3,750 service and the PDI of the car.
Soooo... My local dealership now won't even touch the car, talk-less of honoring the warranty without making me pay for their diagnostic fee of $129 and now I'm stuck with a car with a faulty sensor under 20k miles. I have been back and forth with corporate who will be talking with my local dealership tomorrow, but is siding with the dealer from the looks of it. I'm nervous to ask about the window rattle now, seeing how everything is going currently. I thought these problems are what warranties are for but I guess I was wrong.
What should I do at this point? I will keep everyone posted on what the dealership says tomorrow. Thanks in advance.
Edit: Picked the car up this morning. The rattle is only half fixed. They put felt along the window switch gear to stop the assembly from rattling when music is playing. I believe the sound is coming from deep in the driver's side door (possibly a loose window regulator). The BSM problem, however, can't be replicated despite video evidence (go figure). I'll go to another dealer to see what they can do.
