What DND mechanics do you have trouble with/didn't know about?

Ok so... Ive been playing dnd for about 7-10 yrs (3.5, pf 2e, and 5e) and ive been DM'ing 5e for about 3 yrs now. And there is so much i didnt know "I DIDNT KNOW". Its mind boggling! Like did you know there are fully fleshed out rolls for riding mounts. Yeah those exist, on like page 186 or 195ish in the PHB. And anyone can use them not just the Cavalier Fighter! And for some reason ive never seen them used in a majority of games that ive played/DM'd/or watched!

Or that there is a special kind of "shove action" that only the DM can use called Shove Aside or something like that.

So what are some mechanics you have trouble with or didn't know existed?
