Is there a big math rock/(midwest emo) scene in Chicago?

I recently discovered the feature on spotify where you can see where a majority of a bands listeners are from and Chicago was consistently on every list and frequently the top spot. I checked bands from chon to by the end of summer to ttng to the cabs and Chicago was always up there. Does anyone have any information about why this may be?
