In 2000, Tomi J. (aka 'T.J.') Laakso published the paper Ahlfors Q-regular spaces with arbitrary Q > 1 admitting weak Poincaré inequality, which introduced a novel construction in analysis and metric geometry now called a Laakso space. The paper also spawned the idea of a Laakso graph, which has several applications in embedding theory (see, e.g., [1], [2], [3]). Laakso's paper currently has over 200 citations.
However, there is surprisingly little information about Laakso on the internet. According to this paper on Laakso spaces, it is believed that Laakso retired from academia. According to the Mathematics Genealogy Project, he/she never received a Ph.D.
Does anyone know anything about T.J. Laakso, why they may have retired from academia, and what they are doing these days?
