This is something I posted on r/sex, but I see this sub may be more suited for it.
I've realized some of my habits when masturbating are unusual and I want to check with people her whether I may be inadvertently creating problems for myself in the future. I'm a guy by the way.
I masturbate every day, either before going to sleep or in the morning when I wake up. That's essentially a routine for me now, and has been for years. I'd probably find it hard to stop masturbating for a while if I tried because I'm so used to it. Sometimes I masturbate several times in a row if I'm feeling like it or if I'm bored. So far so good, pretty typical I presume.
What is unusual, compared to what I believe other men are doing, is that for me it takes at least half an hour to ejaculate, sometimes even more, up to one hour probably. It's faster sometimes if I'm really in a hurry, but I very rarely if ever ejaculate within several minutes of starting, which is what I assume most men do. I mostly masturbate to erotica I find here on Reddit or my personal fantasies, so I don't use porn that much. I suspect cumming takes so long because I often get distracted while browsing through erotica on my phone - I usually go through several stories before I cum - and sometimes my attention wanders to looking up something else, still sexual, but I lose my focus. On the other hand, while this is happening I continue stroking, so I don't really stop masturbating, I'm simply not totally focused on that. Perhaps if I was careful to avoid distractions I wouldn't have this issue.
As for the technique, I do have to admit I don't really stroke the penis softly. I'm circumcised and I don't use lube, but I never had problems getting off this way. I've seen some people point out potential problems with this, and on a few occasions I tried going slower and with only light touch. It's of course less stimulating and I need to focus more mentally in that case. Maybe it takes a bit longer to ejaculate this way, I'm not sure. It's only anecdotal, but I do think sensation when cumming is stronger when I used softer strokes. I'm not 100% sure as I've only done it a few times, as I said, it requires more focus on my part than my usual method. Given that my orgasms when ejaculating feel incredibly weak, this could be an important thing to try more.
Do you think there's anything concerning in these habits? Should I attempt to masturbate less frequently or try to be kinder to my penis? I wouldn't want to end up creating problems for myself (like delayed ejaculation) when I start having partnered sex.
