The only negative thing I can find in the entirety of Hushed and Grim is the absence of Scott Kelly, lowkey the fifth Mastodon member for the majority of the band's life!
Does anyone know why he didn't make an appearance? Like come on, at least on Dagger or Gobblers of Dregs, where he found fit like a glove.
I was expecting his vocals to blow me away during Dagger, it felt like a build up to that, but it didn't come. To me, Dagger from Mastodon has the same effect as Culling Voices from TOOL, and that's the absence of vocals where needed. In Mastodon's case, no Scott Kelly on an opportunity like that song. I expected a similar appearance on it to Fallen Torches, him singing over a slow Doom Metal riff.
