Post Body

Hey everyone, long time Mastodon fan here. Been to several shows and listened to every minute of every song more times than I can count!

I know that not everyone will agree, but I'm curious as to what everyone will say...Here is my Rankings for full length Mastodon albums!

#8. THE HUNTER

I don't think anyone will be surprised by this ranking. There are some moments of brilliance, and a few real bangers, but overall the album just seems to fall short. At times, some songs feel almost... Commercial?

#7. REMISSION

This is the pick that I believe will generate the most controversy. Remission is a SOLID album, that feels RAW and powerful. The reason I ranked it this low, is that compared to other work, this album is just simply not as refined or well constructed.

#6. HUSHED AND GRIM

This album took a while to grow on me, but it certainly did. Hushed and grim is a great listen from start to finish. In my opinion, there was some left to be desired with certain songs. I felt there were moments where certain songs could have seen further progression/escalation.

#5. ONCE MORE ROUND THE SUN

For me this was probably the hardest album to fit into the rankings. The album is well constructed, and has some of the band's biggest shining moments. There are a couple songs on this album that were actually very well received by fans, that for me, I didn't like as much... For example, Asleep in the deep, or Halloween.

#4. LEVIATHAN

At this point, as a huge Mastodon fan, the rankings become increasingly difficult. I do realize that for some, Leviathan sits at #1. I freaking LOVE this album... So many absolute BANGERS. I had to place this one just outside of the top 3, and my reasoning for that is because musically speaking, I don't believe the band truly had reached their prime as far as composition and even quite frankly, skill. Again. Though... Hard ranking for me, on a truly amazing Album.

#3. EMPEROR OF SAND

This album is the definition of masterful composition. It's perfectly refined, and has a little bit of the flavor of Mastodon that everyone can appreciate. It's heavy at times, and beautifully soft at others. All of the band's improvements over the years are displayed on this album. Jaguar god and Roots remain are RIDICULOUS tracks.

#2. BLOOD MOUNTAIN

THIS is peak Mastodon. Blood mountain is where I believe the band really found their stride musically. There's a perfect mix of FACE MELTING riffs and perfectly composed builld-ups. For me, this album contains the most underrated tracks, such as Siberian divide, Capillarian crest, and this mortal soil. The band took a lot of risks with this album compared to Leviathan, and I believe it paid off big time. If you disagree with me on this ranking - I ask you to give it a good listen again, with an open mind!

#1. CRACK THE SKYE

Not just my favorite Mastodon album, but one of my favorite albums overall. Crack the Skye is a masterpiece that I honestly regard as one of the most, if not THE best written metal albums of all time. The care and precision that went into constructing this album is truly an amazing accomplishment for the history of progressive metal. My favorite track is "The last baron", a song in which I'm sure you guys know, sort of brings you on a journey! It's a beautiful roller coaster ride of a song.

Do you guys agree with any of my rankings? Which albums do you consider to be top 3?

I'd love to chat! Thanks for reading!!!
