I'm looking at you, Maxx "C", Ash Blossom, Imperm, Called By, and Zeus.
Whatever your opinion of these cards' individual power (and I'm sure we all have different ideas about which of these is the most busted), you have to accept that their pickrate is completely unacceptable for a healthy TCG.
Everybody loves to insist that THE META DEMANDS you run 3 Maxx "C", 3 Ash, 2 Called By, 2 D Shifters, 2 Fenrir, or whatever other cheesy bullshit the obscene powercreep of this game has driven us to, but no one wants to accept that this is symptomatic of terrible game design.
When Konami puts out a set with Nibiru, D Shifter, and Dark Ruler No More as a sort of balance patch to the game, they are demonstrating that they are too fucking spineless to do what needs to be done to right this sinking ship.
It started by giving one person a sword, then another person a gun, then yet another person a cannon, until they've totally fucked the power level of this game into the ground by giving too many decks the functional equivalent of nukes... and their solution has been to make nukes easier for anyone to summon... and THEN, like clowns freewheeling through a circus shitshow, start trying sell you ANTI-NUKES!
Keep this up for 20 years and it becomes the sit-and-watch-your-opponent-play-solitaire-for-20-minutes-then-fold meta it's become.
It is absolutely INARGUABLE that cards with disproportionately high pick rates hurt deck diversity, and it is equally inarguable that they undermine creative deckbuilding. Do not fucking step to me and pretend to tell me with a straight face that you enjoy putting the same 10 cards in every 40 card deck.
By contrast, take a look at the pick rates across the various formats of Magic, they rarely peak 50%, Force of Will only barely crosses 50% in Legacy and Legacy Magic is the closest Magic gets to Advanced Format Yu-Gi-Oh! in terms of cardpool and power level. For that matter, the deck diversity in Magic is also much better. Legacy's top deck is only 6% of the meta! Don't you wish you only saw Kashtira or Purelly 6% of the time?
When the meta homogenizes around certain decks and siding in outs to those particular decks, all you do is create glass cannons that are mainly good against the other glass cannons in the bracket. Wow, so skillfull, much talented... can't wait to floodgate your ass and watch you forfeit because you aren't running any backrow removal.
TLDR; Ban Ash Blossom, she hurts deckbuilding and deck diversity and there are better ways to balance the game.
