I just finished my first ever play through (which was wonderful) of the series, and I purposefully neglected romance in the first to games to go all in on the gay romance with Kaidan.
For most of my time playing I was kind of sad there wasn’t an option earlier for gay men, but I get why they backed out with the political climate during the years the games came out. That’s just how it went for the most part unfortunately. I was also kind of annoyed that it was Kaidan who they chose to use for that romance, just because I had read constantly online that Kaidan is super boring. I liked him in ME1, but definitely other people were more interesting.
I’m just writing this because I was so pleasantly surprised and touched by how sweet the romance was. I think a lot of the general consensus on Kaidan’s character is a bit misplaced, and the writing of his character in the third game really evolves into a very likable character. The romance between male shepard and Kaidan is this sweet slow burn that you don’t often see in gay relationships in media. I think because it had taken so long to get to the romance portion of the games for me that it had an extra impact.
So am I just bringing something up that people generally agree with? Do people like the Kaidan stuff, or is he generally seen as not very compelling?
