While I think Andromeda’s classes thing had some neat ideas I don’t think it worked super well in mass effect. If anything I think it made the squad feel pointless and limited replay.
Since Ryder was a one man/woman army it didn’t really matter which squad members you took. The original trilogy the squad was meant to fill out the roles that Shepard was unable to. Being classless means that you can do everything so picking a squad was just “whose voice do I like best?”
For replays of the trilogy picking a new class was one of the biggest reasons to play it again. Trying a new play style and abilities and weapons. With no class you can just build a character that can do everything and anything. Making a replay a little less appealing.
