I run my own practice, and as we were opening back up from covid shut downs, a client of mine was relentless in getting me to come join the staff part-time at her salon... it's a really hi-end place and is a pretty good supplement to my income as things are still a bit slow at my place.
The salon has a really great program for employees to pamper themselves with all services greatly reduced in price, but it should go without saying with such a great reduction in services, tips should be a bit more stout, but this is not the case ~ At the time there is only 1 full time therapist, and myself working part time, with 2 estheticians, and the rest hair stylists. It is primarily a hair salon~
The therapist I work with has received 2 massages from me so far, with an attempt to book with me a 3rd time not long ago, before I declined to book her. She has told me her schedule is too busy to book me, and when I finally gave her the ultimatum of just trading out with me, rather than booking with me , she refused, telling me she only trades out with the other service providers there, not the massage therapists, and that she prefers to pay for her massages. She is aware I have had a cervical fusion last year, and deal with some nerve issues..... and as odd as it was, she actually sent me a link to a local spa for me to book there and pay full price, while she wants to come to our salon and pay 20$ for her session with me......I sent her a link to my practice, and ended up posting a bulletin at the salon that I will no longer do employee massages there, but that any employee can book at my practice for a fair reduced price service~
I wish I could get through to this gal... she has been practicing about half as long as I have, and maybe feels she lacks skill and her ego would take a hit ... but I sure became a better therapist over the years by trading out with as many people as I could..... massage is expensive~ We can't afford the service we provide lol~
You new therapists out there..... salons and spas can be some seriously catty, chatty, back stabbing places.... You just make sure you know your craft well and live on a higher level than that nonsense~
