Detailed question on MIDI controller and synth connection to PLUS
Post Body

Hi I am about to buy a Maschine plus, but I need to double check that my intended setup is right.

This will be for live performance.

  • Maschine Plus

  • Korg Minilogue (Module, no keyboard)

  • Alesis Vortex Keytar (controller)

This is what I want to do:

1) Trigger internal sequences and audio in the Maschine live.

2) Run MIDI out to the korg synth

3) Have audio run back into Maschine from the korg synth and have it in the playback mix

4) Play the Alesis Keytar to control the internal instruments of Maschine AND OR the korg synth via maschine's midi.

5) NOTE: the Alesis can ONLY output midi through USB, as I will be using its wireless midi dongle (USB only), so I don't trip over a MIDI cord on stage.

So my main questions would be:

1) Can Maschine receive midi signals via one of its USB sockets?

2) Can these midi signals be passed onto either internal instruments OR the external synth, and can I switch between these two options easily during a performance?

3) Can I get the audio from the synth and nicely, easily mix it into the rest of the performance?

4) Ideally, can the whole performance be recorded, including all my smooth moves on the Maschine, and all the audio from the synth, in one live recording for playback later?

That's all really helpful thank you. I'm guessing I could assign the pad note to the very bottom midi note so that it essentially makes no discernable noise when I hit it, if I end up having no choice but to switch that way. Recording the performance as resampled audio is perfect - it's simply for the purpose of syncing to video if I film the set, or for general posterity. It's sounding promising... Now I just have to decide on which outboard synth to get, because I've discovered an old live 19 inch rack case, so I'm gonna find a module synth that will fit snuggly on top of the Maschine in the rack. (Instead of the korg, which is actually just over 19 inches wide!!) Thank you heaps, it looks like this plan will be the way forward. Oh and yep the Alesis remote USB MIDI dongle does work without a driver. Feels very magical and liberating - just gotta make sure I recharge those AA batteries before each performance!!
