Day trip ideas?

Hello! Every time I come back to Maryland (I go to college elsewhere), I take a day trip to explore a new town or city I haven’t been to in the area. Last time it was Fredrick, and now I am looking for another town or area to explore like Fredrick with small shops and food, preferrably somewhere that looks really nice in the fall, and somewhere within a 2 hour drive. Any ideas are appreciated! Thanks!
