At least according to character-select UI, some characters get actual statistical boosts depending on the season. Currently Venom gets extra health, Hela does extra damage, Luna Snow does extra healing, and there's more.
How the hell do they ever expect to reach balance when this kind of system is in place? For the sake of balance this is such a horrible idea. I worry/wonder I'm alone thinking that though. Does anyone else feel the same way?
Reasons I think it's bad are:
It's impossible to tune characters accurately. If a character feels too strong during a season (3 months) are they actually that strong or is it just a seasonal boost? Tuning down a character because they were strong from a seasonal boost is bad. Characters who aren't selected to be boosted that season will feel underwhelming in comparison, so will they be buffed to make them more appealing? Balancing games like this is already a nightmare, why implement a system to make it even worse?
Character selection will be railed towards boosted characters. Not every single player will take it into account, but many many will. You're intentionally skewing character selection statistics by giving some of them bonuses. Pick rates will reflect this.
