Does anyone have any knowledge on the potential effects of short term dehydration on bone density?
Post Body

Given the fight and broken leg last night, I started wondering about osteoporosis and how it could happen to someone in that age bracket.

Of course we don't know if osteoporosis had any role in the incident yet, but in my mind it seems likely. In doing some reading, it does seem that long term dehydration is a cause of osteoporosis. I wonder if short term (weight cutting) has any similar effect, but I can't find anything in the medical literature.

Other potential causes for osteoporosis include caloric restriction-which obviously is a common thing for fighters, though that can usually be ameliorated by exercise.

Anyone have any other info?
