My husband opened up about something that is very annoying to him but I don't get it
Post Body

(Tl;dr at bottom)

I am trying to understand where he's coming from when he says this: His complaint is that while he's at work, sometimes he calls me and I don't answer right away. We are homesteaders and parents, so sometimes my hands are covered in food, soap, animal poop, kid poop, or countless other substances and I can't physically answer the phone in those moments. I hear the calls come in, go wash my hands, and then check my phone. If I was showering the toddler or myself, I check right after and call him back. When I call back, he is already irritated. He says this is one of the biggest problems he has with me because he feels like he can't depend on me.

What exactly is unreasonable about not answering the phone right away on these occasions??? I am so confused. Am I in the wrong here? If so, suggestions for how to answer calls with muck on my hands would be appreciated.

Tl;dr: I do my best to answer the phone when my husband calls but he insists I am undependable because I don't answer 100% of the time.

Explain to him that his need for immediate access is unreasonable given that you wear many hats at home. The fact that you’re not immediately available is an indication that you’re being dependable and taking care of things at home. The man needs to check his perspective a bit.
