Iām starting to see more and more purpose in sharing my story
This goes out to those of you that isnāt starting because you canāt afford that ācourseā or access to those resources
Never liked long paragraphs filled with tons of fluff - so Iām gonna keep it short and meaningful
Background:
Former Finance professional was once surrounded by traditional business ways. Knew nothing about digital marketing, just thought it was what young kids do to sell pop-tarts and t-shirts.
Parentsā business was severely suffering by not joining the rest of the world and adopting to new ways of business & marketing. Flyers on walls & and direct mail was the our idea of marketing.
The journey:
I jumped in as a side project; wanted to save the family business with āinnovative waysā that we are all bombarded with everyday on the internet (Ex. HOW TO GROW YOUR BUSINESS FAST) - you know the types lol
Deeper and more comprehensive research began to show itās not just empty promises, thereās actually something there, but I knew better to trust those clickbait video and shady coaches.
I went about it my own way and learned every ACTIONABLE thing I could on how to improve and expand a brick-and-mortar business. Came to the conclusion that the business needs to go through:
Digital Transformation
Start using digital marketing channels/tools
Started promoting business with:
- Google ads
Within 60 days:
- 110% monthly revenue
- Consistently booked out for 2 months out
Me aftermath:
Transitioning into marketing, because I enjoyed the marketing endeavor journey SO MUCH MORE than finance day-to-day.
Trying to leveraging myself into an marketing managerial position with the experience I gathered and the results I produced.
Wish me luck, friends
Moral of the story:
Donāt get comfortable with the old ways of doing things. Explore and experiment new ways, youāll be surprised what youāll discover ;)
edit:
Even though I hate long posts (knowing the pain behind scrolling through them), i'm gonna extend this post a bit, because:
Somebody suggested that extensively explaining how I got started and the methods I used to reach great results could inspire some of you to take action on your own personal endeavor (this idea makes me happy)
Spoiler: I didn't pay a single dime for knowledge/information about digital marketing. This breakdown goes out to those of you that canāt afford a particular ācourseā or access to resources
Everything I learned were from:
Doing - trial and error - dive head first into the murky waters, did what appeared to be the best course of action at the time, and when things don't work, I pivoted fast, hard, and often; experiment with that other keyword for this Ad group, or try that other strategy I read online, then expanded upon on and polished
Google - Every time there's something I didn't know, I spent hours upon hours googling; forming the question in different ways until I find something usefull
Reading articles/forums/posts/comments - I skimmed through thousands of marketing related reddit posts/comment (comments can offer tons of helpful advice), constantly keeping in mind what kinda of information is what I should jog down and expand upon & and what kind I should filter out.
Synthesize ideas - Went back to the relevant ideas I gathered from browsing. Really focused on them, I mean like REALLY focused on them; I would have intense brainstorm sessions where I lock myself in my room and verbally bounce these "raw" ideas to myself OUT-LOUD (sounds a little crazy, I know), and imagined all the different scenarios I could execute on with them (really let my creativity flow).
I find that taking "raw" ideas from a foreign source to be almost impossible to use and execute upon. So, I must first convert these potentially useful "raw" ideas to my ideas that I take complete ownership, through this pretty intense process. It's bit nuts, but this is my way of synthesizing raw information with my own, and ultimately creating actionable ideas - that I own.
- Execute & experiment (the funnest part, atleast for me) - Took newly created actionable ideas and implemented them. This part is all about action & speed. Implemented one plan and they don't work? Keep your chin up, because an version of that plan will work, if not the other 100000 million plans will work.
- when something don't work:
- Find out why it's not working.
- Can't find out why it's not working? Try something else
These two points really summed up how I made things work in my marketing endeavor.
Here's a useful mind-hack that I always keep in mind:
Image yourself standing in front of the control panel of an spaceship, thats really just 100 different buttons, nobody else on board. You don't know sh!t about piloting a spaceship, and it's in the midst of landing, but it needs the last manual instruction to land. What do you do?
Keep pushing buttons until one works
Good luck, friends
