tl;dr: I'm a musician in school for marketing and looking to combine my passion for writing music with my career interest in marketing and make money doing so.
I've been a musician since I was little and it has always been a part of my life. I've been in bands, produced my own music, written several albums worth of material, played festivals with huge names, etc. I strayed away from it to pursue something that has a more solid structure and consistency. I chose marketing. I'm currently in school but was wondering how I could go about pursuing music and marketing at the same time.
I've had several ideas to start my own firm but based entirely around the music scene in my city. It'd be to help promote bands on social media, get shows for them (like management, booking, and essentially a record label). But it's an uphill battle sometimes and it won't work if there isn't any talent to scout and promote.
So my question is: is there a viable way for me to sell my music to a marketing firm for their promo videos or other content? Would a marketing firm hire someone as a musician for the sole purpose of editing audio or composing music for content? Would I be better served as a freelance musician who does work by the quote for a project? Has anyone heard of this being done/have any experience with this kind of thing? I would love any insight anyone can provide.
