Hi all,
I work as a web editor at a small university, and I want to get into communications either here or elsewhere. I've talked with the AVP of Communications about starting a blog for the college, but I'm not sure it's going to happen, and I want to get started on making a portfolio.
I was thinking I could make a blog about a fake college, and make marketing materials for that fake college--emails, email newsletter, brochures, blog posts, etc. That would show off my writing skill, though the fact that it's fake means I don't have to do legwork to actually do interviews, gather information, etc.
I was thinking I could do a blog about my journey as a student in a professional master's program. I'm currently doing the MBA, but I'm applying to an online communications master's degree program, and I could just document my journey and what I'm learning. But this isn't directly marketing related, doesn't show off what I can do in relation to what universities need.
I could do both, I guess, but I'd be stretching myself thin...
Thoughts?
