Have access to 2 acres of land which is mostly sandy loam, sandy and rocky (different soils at different spots). The land has been fallow for over 30 years. I would like to start market gardening in a small scale and see how I do. I am not sure on what crops to begin with. My experience with growing has been mostly with my backyard for over 3 years. I have been very successful with tomatoes, broccolis, beans, peppers, spinach, radishes, beets, and garlic year over year all in my backyard. I also have a fair amount of disease management experience in tomatoes, cole crops, etc. When I search on YouTube for most revenue making crops, I get the following suggestions : spinach, greens, garlic, strawberries, asparagus. I also donβt know how much capital will be needed to start farming in say 1/2 acre plot from scratch (which includes drilling a well, setting up irrigation system, weed management, laying compost in the growing bed, trellises, produce baskets, farm produce processing systems, labor, fertilizer and pest control, equipments for farm stands, etc)
Can someone help me with some insights ?
