Where to source Free AIS Data?

Hi All,

I am an Academic Research Assistant and we’re trying to source 6 months or 1 years worth of AIS data. We’ve already contacted Data providers but it seems that purchasing that data is quite costly, so we were just wondering if there any way we can source that data for free? Is that even feasible? So we’re trying to get AIS data for Cargo vessels or class 70 to try and create a global shipping network and do analysis on shipping price changes due to fuel switching. This is based in Australia.
