So after Nintendo announced that they would literally be doubling that amount of courses in 8 Deluxe from 48 to 96, I don't know about anyone else, but that INSTANTLY made every past Mario Kart game completely irrelevant to me now.
Now that I know that the majority, if not all of my favourite tracks from the previous titles will be coming into 8 Deluxe in full glorious HD and updated modern segments, why on earth would I go back and play any of the older games, especially when the older games have aged horribly anyway.
I actually went back and played Mario Kart 64 through NSO on my Switch the other day just as a little nostalgia trip and that game has not held up in the slightest. The controls are 50/50 between stiff and floaty, the drifting absolutely sucks, it take a million years for Lakitu to get you back onto the course if you fall off, there is barely any content, the graphics are awful and the WORST OFFENCE is that it makes you replay a course if you come in 5th place or worse. What the actual fuck?! WHY?!
In fact, I would say the first 3 games in the series, that being Super Mario Kart on the SNES which I never played as a kid, but did try out, again through NSO, Mario Kart 64 and Super Circuit on the GBA have all aged pretty badly. To me, the Mario Kart series really only started to get genuinely good with Double Dash onwards. But again, now knowing that a bunch of the best courses from that game and beyond will be coming to 8 Deluxe in HD and updated with gliding, underwater and anti-gravity segments, why would I go back and play ANY of the older games now?
Also, as somebody who literally only played Mario Kart Tour for 10 minutes, thought it was awful and immediately deleted it from my phone and never touched it again, I must say I am loving the 3 Tour tracks that they have added so far (Paris Promenade, Tokyo Blur and Ninja Hideaway) and I cannot wait to see more of them such as London Loop, New York Minute, Sydney Sprint (my most excited one as I am from Australia) and Los Angeles Laps. I think there are a couple more like Berlin and Singapore, but I don't know their full names.
Lastly and just quickly as well, I honestly don't get how people are saying that the 8 tracks added so far look bad? What the hell are you talking about? Coconut Mall and Choco Mountain in particular in my opinion look absolutely gorgeous. Do people have nothing better to do than complain that the cars at the end of Coconut mall don't move or have Mii's driving them? Grow up. Those two courses look amazing and are bursting with colour and detail. they look amazing.
That is just how I feel though. I realise that I still have to wait a while for all the new tracks to actually make their way to 8 Deluxe, but I am more than happy to wait. What do you guys think?
