I'm looking to buy the largest cherry sapling I can to replace a tree that fell down in the recent storms. I just bought the house and I only got to see if bloom once before it fell. I have no idea what kind of cherry tree it was, but it had pink flowers in the Spring, deep red/maroon leaves, and produced a ton of dark cherries that I was too scared to eat.
I've been looking for a tree that I can source pretty large (6 feet) and that grows on the faster side because I'm old. I was thinking of an Autumn Cherry because they grow fast and appear hardy, but I don't really know what else is out there. Someone on here said to avoid the Kanzan/Kwanzan and Yoshino cherries because they are prone to infections, insects, and grow branches stupidly, which really threw me for a loop because those are beautiful and look fine to a layman like myself.
So, what faster growing cherry tree would you recommend to someone in zone 7 who wants to plant a tree on the edge of his moderately sized patio?
edit: I'm mildly predisposed towards white blossoms but only very slightly, and I don't need edible cherries.
