I'm not sure this is the right sub, but r/plantclinic doesn't seem right either. We planted this Japanese maple last summer (June). It's really slow to get its leaves back this spring....a lot of other trees in the neighborhood, including two other Japanese maples of ours that are different kinds, are A LOT farther along. I just noticed this yellow stuff on the trunk, and I'm not coming up with the right search terms to find answers for myself. What is this? Do I need to worry about it? And could it be contributing to the slow return of leaves? I'm also worried that maybe somehow it died over the winter but parts of it are blooming.
