Looking to move to a new city in the UK - Why Manchester?

Hi Guys,

I am looking to move to a new city. I grew up/live in a small village (not even a single shop!). I've found my life is getting a bit stale and its time to change things up.

I've always wanted to live in a larger city with a lot going on, Manchester seems to be a good shout, along with Bristol and Sheffield.

So my questions are:

I'm a web developer. How is the tech scene, not just with regard to jobs, but meetups, etc?

What are the pro's/con's of manchester?

What is walking around the city at night like? Is it safe?
