What are some good restaurants in manchester for a uni student to go on a date?

The thing is I don't really eat in restaurants and more often than not just cook my own food so I have no idea where I could take someone on a date. I sat down and thought I would plan for the date beforehand and gather a few places to select from. (I would prefer a location in the city center or near it.) Thanks!
Also, does Pizza Express work or does that come across as too cheap?
