Hey, I'm a new Manager at a company. I just got promoted and our organization is going through a reoorg so I will finally have my own team.
I have a debrief tomorrow for 1 slot on my team and there's a mix of people. But my mentor told me I should pick the person who is more qualified because that means I won't have to teach them thus making my job easier. But is my job as a manager not to train and develop someone's career? I'm just a little conflicted/confused on what to actually do here.
One candidate is definitely a go-getter but she doesn't exactly meet the qualifications of the role but I feel like she's a great fit, the role allows her room to grow, and it's an opportunity for me to well, actually mentor/train and develop like I think a manager should. The other is qualified to the T, but I feel like she will leave so soon because of that, and again, what's to develop her if she already knows this job in and out?
Any advice is needed.
