First time living on my own, need help decorating

Just moved into this studio and snagged this couch for $100 which has a temperpedic mattress for when my family visits. Would like some help decorating, lighting is very minimal here and it gets very dark near the bed at night time. Would like to go for a more modern look thank you in advance!
