Why you should NOT buy a pair of Allbirds
Post Body

I'd like to preface this by letting y'all know that I bought these shoes based on the recommendation given to me by one of my close friends. The way he described these shoes made them sound like the comfiest shoes to wear and walk around a lot in, while I have not had a similar experience.

To start this off, I purchased these shoes 2 weeks ago, almost to the day. When I original recieved my shoes, which were the wool runners, I thought they were hands down the comfiest shoes. The merino wool was unbelievably soft and did a phenomenal job of wicking moisture. On top of this, I received numerous compliments on how the shoes looked.

Unfortunately, in terms of the comfort of walking around and how it made my feet hurt? They were below subpar. After only owning the shoes for a week the areas where my toes and heels landed on the insoles had worn down way more than expected, and the part of the back of the shoe where the back of heel rubbed had worn down quite a bit as well. As far as the toes and heel area wearing down, it seemed like the insoles just don't have enough cushioning.

Now I understand other shoes have these problems as well, however, a direct quote on their Our Promise tab is

We strive to make shoes that look great and feel amazing throughout the entire day - our premium natural materials deliver this incredible comfort.

While they do look great and certainly feel great for the first couple hours, they just don't stay comfortable to wear for an entire day, and I'm also really disappointed in the build quality of these shoes. For the insoles and heel of the shoe to wear down so quickly, only a week, is just not something I can look past. This could potentially be less of an issue, but the cost of their insoles is exorbitant. Their insoles are $25, and you can buy insoles that will NOT wear down nearly as quickly for only $9.

Finally, I'm disappointed in the customer service I received as well. I emailed their support after only a week of owning their shoes letting them know that the insoles of my only week old shoes, and the heel of the shoe had worn down significantly after only a week. Not only do they not do exchanges easily, but they also will NOT offer discounted insoles, even when you've owned them for a week. Purchasing third party insoles also don't seem to work well for these shoes because none of them fit properly due to the shoe being designed like a "sock".

TL;DR - Shoes look great, but are NOT the most comfortable shoes in the world. Customer service is NOT very helpful. Replacement insoles are too expensive. Would not recommend these shoes.
