A short Rant
Post Body

will delete soon

Hello everyone, just wanted to share some thoughts (a rant really) on the increasing number of posts about being scared to attend UNIMAS or UMS for a degree, especially from people in Peninsular Malaysia. As a Sarawakian studying in semenanjung, I find it odd how vocal some of you are about your “fear” of studying here. Most concerns are about how far it is from home (you’re a grown up, literally) or exaggerated fears like encountering crocodiles in Sarawak. While safety concerns are valid, do you ever consider it from the other perspective? When people from Borneo come to semenanjung, we have our worries too, but we don't act like it's the END OF THE WORLD. We still encounter comments like “Oh, you’re from Sarawak. Welcome to Malaysia.” Do you still think we live in trees or don't have Wi-Fi? Please, rest assured about studying at UNIMAS, UMS, or other institutions here. You'll be just fine.

this doesn’t apply to everyone, obviously.

edit for a better reach (deleted a reply for a comment below):

supernatural beings are not just limited to sarawak. some places in KL are also “haunted” yet the city is still flooded with people. just avoid sketchy places and refrain from provoking them with actions like saying, “Hey ghost, come here and play with me.” While I don’t personally believe in ghosts, I respect others’ beliefs and superstitions. dont go around playing weird games in the dark

Addressing a diff comment for better clarity: I am not invalidating anyone’s genuine fear and struggle to move to a different part of the country. For those who think otherwise, I encourage you to reread my post and understand my perspective. There is a difference between genuine concerns and a lack of awareness about East Malaysia (plain ignorance). Financial struggles are valid, as I am not rich either. However, those who have lived in their own bubbles their whole lives need to realise it’s not the END OF THE WORLD if they are placed in UNIMAS or UMS. Every part of the country has its flaws. You’re an adult now, and while you can return home after your undergraduate studies, you cannot change your UPU placement. Accept it and make the best of it. If you choose to drop out and commute to a college from home because you think there’s no wifi in Sarawak or you think that sarawak is a breeding ground for ghosts, then that’s your decision. Just don't be a katak di bawah tempurung.
