I suddenly woke up in a united Malaysia, I turned on the TV and see public announcements made in multiple languages, government workers consisting of many races, communities admixing with each other most noticeably they were speaking in each other languages predominantly english but no one is left out. No one is arguing about colonial influence, instead they focused on connecting bridges in-between communities. Schools no longer segregated, high quality education for everyone with no mention of any single race.
I turned off my tv and decided to walk outside..
Can hear my Indian and Chinese neighbours playing negaraku and gemuruh jiwa, I was honestly shocked. I walked through the neighbourhood still in my sleeping shorts. There were people from different ethnic communities playing volley ball together, badminton.. Being so cheerful it honestly looked wholesome. I felt hungry and saw a kopitiam nearby filled with people! Songkok-clad uncle, aunty enjoying the kaya toast and their morning kopi they were chit chatting with a hawker auntie.
Terms like Bumiputra no longer exists, they were just Malaysians. We can be a very prosperous society if we focus our effort towards nation building and not separatism, straw-manning, demagoguery and hurtful narratives.
