Our old girl Scar who almost made it to 14 years old had what we assume was a massive stroke tonight. She was fine all day and all of a sudden this evening, she went to the floor and couldn't move one entire side of her body. We comforted her until she calmed down but we knew there was no coming back or getting better. She may have also been blinded in the event as her eyes couldn't focus on anything but she could definitely still hear us.
By the time I got her to the emergency vet, she was calm but fading. With no motion outside of her shallow breathing.
We knew at her age, that our time left with her was limited but we were definitely caught off guard by her sudden episode.
We adopted Scar when she was 5 years old and she lived a great life with us for a long time. It never feels like it's long enough but the 7 years we had with her were awesome. She was a great companion and we were happy that we could give her a loving home for the rest of her years.
It's going to be rough. We walked twice a day, everyday, for 7 years. It's going to be a huge adjustment not being able to go on our walks. She was also my shadow around the house. Never craving attention but never settling down until I picked a room to sit in. At which point, once she knew I was settled, she'd find her spot on the floor.
Then once I went up to bed, she'd follow behind and find her spot on the bedroom floor.
We will miss her immensely and our home will absolutely feel empty without her presence.
We've lost other dogs before but losing Scar is really going to sting. We've always had another dog in the house when we've lost in the past. But we made a family decision that Scar was going to be our last dog for quite a while. This will be the first time in 20 years that our home will not have the presence of a family dog.
Thank you for taking the time to read my little memorial of Scar!
