Do any of you folks have the kick play right after the 808?

Basically the 808 note plays and a kick directly follows that note w/o any kicks being before that.
I tried it and it gave sort of a delayed feel to the flow of the beat.
Does this make sense to anyone else? I'm only afraid it would confuse the singer and mess with the bounce/swing.
