I do from time to time, but only like if a kick needs more thump, I'll layer a short poppy 808 under it, or maybe a crackin snare over a punchy snare and pitch them accordingly. But I never am using 3/4/5 drum layers on top of each other like I hear other people saying. A lot of the time I like my drums, I won't lie and say I love them all the time, but I don't think any of us do. I find that with sample choice, light eq, saturation and compression I can get them pretty thick. If you don't really use that many layers, what are your tricks for beefing up your drums? From gear to plugins to techniques, whatever. Lately I've been loving the waves oneknob plugins, specifically the oneknob phatter for drums, also abletons glue compressor.
