Water dish

Hello! I have an 8 month old Maine Coon male who splashes his water fountain all over the floor or knocks his water dish if it's light enough to. It's warping the wood in my apartment rental. I have it on top of a rubber mat, with a rubber-backed carper underneath it and still he manages to fling the water out and onto the floor. He almost does a scooping motion with his paw, like funneling it onto the floor.
Any suggestions?!
