What version of Magnesium am I supposed to take?

I've been getting involved in nootropics for awhile in attempt to cure my lack of focus and motivation. I've heard various good things about Magnesium Glycinate, so I invested in that...only to discover it's for sleep and muscle cramp. Not concentration.
It doesn't help there's so many versions of Magnesium too. I've heard you're supposed to take L-Threonate: but it seems quite pricey, not to mention the dosing is confusing. Like the bottle says 2000mg, but only 144mg of "available" Magnesium. Can someone explain this to me?
Also, what other supplements do you recommend for focus and mood? Thank you!
