Usidore's foreign language names and spells
Post Body

Some of us are overseas fans of the show. Like me, I'm Dutch. When I first started listening I of course tried to say Usidore's full name with him as all of us have tried at some point (read: every time he says it). But I never really understood the dwarves name. I decided to look it up and lo and behold, it's Dutch but pronounced understandably terrible. So terrible in fact that I thought it was italian or something. Zoenen Hoogstandjes. It's actually pronounced: Zoonen Hoegstawndjus with hoe als in hoe, the tool, and the g as... well, the Dutch g. As for what it means: I think it's supposed to be delightful kisses or something, but now it actually says Kissing Great Feats.

Cut to today when my curiosity about the light spell got the best of me as I never really understood what they were saying. Turns out that one is also Dutch, and just as Zoenen Hoogstandjes is probably some direct google translation which makes no sense (but that's what makes it fun!). The words are fine but it should be: "Belicht alsjeblieft de kamer." or: "Gelieve de kamer te belichten.". Right now it's about as logical as Room Prithee Lights.

Are there any spells or names in your mother tongue that were used in the show that made you laugh?
