Can anyone recommend a good guide on mana sources for deck building? Most of my games still come down to who draws the right amount of mana

I haven't watched many pro games, but I feel there has to be a science around getting mana out consistently, and not leaving games up to so much chance. Right now all of my decks have between 22-24 mana, regardless of type, and few if any other mana sources.. I'm just not sure what's really necessary in a deck, or how to know I've reached "optimal mana sources".
