Lazav, the Multifarious and zone changes

What happens to Lazav when he's flickered while a copy of a different creature? His ability doesn't say anything about the copy effect ending at end of turn or anything like that.
I'm assuming if I were to use [Siren's Ruse] or something then he would return to the battlefield as Lazav not copying anything, but I want to be extra sure before I make an EDH deck around him.
