Starting a Budget Modern League

Magic is expensive is played competitively. So i got the idea to try and start a weekly tournament at my LGS similar to FNM but instead, budget modern. When i asked them about it they pretty much just laughed in my face. So i was wondering if their was a way to reach out to people in my area (NJ) who might be interested.
