Match 1 - I got the by. I was pretty bummed since I was here just to test out my deck.
Match 2 - I went against a guy who had just bought a 2014 intro pack and was learning to play magic again after 9 years. I kinda felt bad, but I took the match 2-0.
Match 3 - I played against trees. Really, really big trees. Round one I was pretty mana screwed and only had a Deathrite Shaman out the whole game. He face rolled me easily. Round 2 was much more even. I started the game with lots of discard, which slowed him down enough for me to get a good presence. Eventually he gets out some big trees, and is swinging for lots. I make a misplay near the end which ended up costing me the game. I had 11 damage on the board with 2 flipped Huntmasters and a 3/3 Vinelasher, an untapped Deathrite Shaman, and he only had a single blocker. I should have swung for 11, made him take 7, exiled an instant or sorcery with DRS, and then played the shock in my hand for game. But I didn't. I decided not to swing, because I thought I needed protection. At the very end, he was at 6 life, and I had 2 shocks and a Deathrite Shaman. I was down a red source.
Match 4 - I played a Living End deck. Usually a good matchup for me, but ended up going 1-2. Game 1 I kept his graveyard relatively empty, but never drew a win-con of my own, so I just dragged the game out. Eventually he was able to get off a successful Living End, and swung until I could clear the board again. I ended up losing at the end with 1 life and a swampwalk creature. Game 2, I drew everything I needed and wrecked him with 2 life each turn with DRS, and 3 fat Vinelashers. Game 3 I started with an excellent hand, but he had sideboarded in 2 surgical extractions and got rid of my Deathrites and Terramorphic expanses, shutting me down hard. I never drew my sideboarded slaughter games, and he ended up just running me over with dudes. He was really nice though, and gave me a pack from his winnings at the end of the night.
All in all, it played well when I drew what I needed. There were a few points where I made some obvious mistakes which cost me the game, and a few points where that stand-in Shock would've made an amazing Lightning Bolt, and the stand-in Doom Blade would've been an amazing Terminate or Go for the Throat. With the addition of these few extra cards, I feel like it will make the deck a lot more effective and reliable!
EDIT: I updated the list recently and didn't have the 4x Lightning bolts when I played the tournament. In the tournament I had 2 Shocks and a Lightning Bolt.
