I was playing some casual commander with friends yesterday and had a confusing situation come up. I had [[Strefan, Maurer Progenitor]] in play and sacrificed 2 blood tokens to put [[Markov Enforcer]] into play after declaring attackers. So at this moment, Markov Enforcer enters tapped and attacking. But Markov also has the ETB "Whenever Markov Enforcer or another Vampire enters the battlefield under your control, Markov Enforcer fights up to one target creature an opponent controls." My friend then cast [[Aetherize]] to return all attackers to their owners hands. Does Markov Enforcer still get to fight a creature and deal damage? We landed on "no" after another friend said that priority passes before the fight and Aetherize caused Markov Enforcer to go back to my hand without dealing damage. Was this correct? Would appreciate it if someone could go through step by step how it resolves.
