Getting fired so they could buy S&P from PP&L was all Draper's idea and he had to convince Bert and Roger to do it. But in "real life" there is no way anybody would have been able to convince Roger or Bert to venture into that. They both stood to make tons. Cooper was on his last legs with nothing new to offer. Roger's entire career was one account (Lucky) and he had ZERO ambition.
I found that whole buy-out scenario to be one of the most outlandish storylines in the show for those reasons alone. And I'm not even going into the financial and legal logistics behind it all.
