The relationship between Pete and his father in law is very interesting to me. Sometimes they hate each other's guts, sometimes they respect each other as men, sometimes they seem to genuinely care about one another. It's rocky, to say the least.
Despite the fact that they have had serious disagreements and their falling out left them on very bad terms, I couldn't help but notice that Pete seemed very struck when he learned about Tom's stroke. Worried, even upset. And even after the falling out, Pete spent Christmas with them at least once. I do wonder how that visit went, whether or not they patched things up.
I think it's interesting that, even with the shitty parts of their relationship, Pete received more love from Tom than he ever did from his own father. And I think that because Pete's father never loved him or treated him with warmth, Tom's love was difficult to accept or even know what to do with.
What are your thoughts on Tom and Pete?
