While not really part of the advertising itself, I noticed a peculiar thing about how the show influenced my desire for a particular product. In S6E13 (In Care Of), Peggy gets all dolled up to entice/taunt Ted Chaough. When she announces that she's leaving early, Jim Cutler comments on her perfume, Chanel #5, and Peggy smirks and says that it's all she wears.
Ever since watching that scene I've been lusting after a bottle for myself. There are hundreds of great fragrances out there but I don't even want to try to choose between them, I just want Peggy's perfume. I think it's due to the subliminal messaging in the scene. Peggy is looking her absolute sexiest, and so in my mind the perfume will make me sexier too.
Anyone else gain a weird affinity or desire for products/brands from watching the show?
