I've noticed on a rewatch that this show really has a way of conveying what it's like when topics of ordinary conversation become touchy and painful. Things that come up all of the time, things that most wouldn't give a second thought to, that fill people with shame, embarrassment, or fury.
For Don, it's mothers and family of origin.
For Peggy, illegitimate pregnancies and the associated Catholic guilt.
For Roger, Japan and all things related.
For Pete, father/son relationships.
For Joan, slut-shaming.
For Lane, financial success and family legacy/honor.
I must be missing some. What are some sensitive topics for other characters?
