I am a 38-year-old female who is about to make the move to Madison for an incredible job opportunity at UW Hospital. While I am thrilled about this new adventure, I must admit that I am feeling a bit anxious about relocating to an area where I have no existing connections. Having spent my entire life in the Chicagoland area, this move represents a significant change for me.
I am currently in the process of looking for a short-term lease or sublet for around 6 months, giving me the opportunity to acclimate to the area and determine if this move will be a permanent one. I must confess that I am something of a creature of habit and I do appreciate predictability in my personal life, although I thrive on the unexpected and the fast-paced environment of a Level 1 trauma center in my professional life.
Speaking of my personal life, I consider myself to be a sociable and outgoing individual. However, there are times when I do require some downtime to recharge, particularly with the company of my incredible service dog who will be joining me on this adventure. Therefore, finding a safe and comfortable living space is of utmost importance to me.
In terms of my housing requirements, I am seeking a 1 bed/1 bath or studio apartment with a designated divider between the bedroom and living room/kitchen area. I also have a preference for a large walk-in closet that I can potentially transform into a small business office. My budget is somewhat limited, so I am aiming to keep my monthly rent below $1750.
Safety is a top priority for me, especially when it comes to taking my dog out late at night. Additionally, due to my mobility issues, I need an ADA-friendly living space with no multiple flights of stairs. A bathtub and shower combo is a must, as I enjoy unwinding with a nice soak after a long day. I love to cook and entertain, so having a space that can comfortably accommodate a small gathering of 3-4 people is important to me.
Finally, I have a personal preference regarding privacy. If the apartment only has one bathroom, I would prefer to not have visitors passing through my bedroom to access it.
I understand that my list of requirements may seem a bit specific, but I genuinely appreciate any recommendations or advice you can offer. I am also eager to learn about the must-see attractions and areas to avoid in Madison.
Thank you all in advance for any assistance you can provide as I embark on this exciting new chapter in my life.
P.S. I will also be moonlighting at UnityPoint Meiter Hospital; there, I don't mind driving.
