Post Body

Hi there, I recently brought a 6,1 D500 32Gb ram 8 core xeon 500Gb trashcan with the intention of running it as a home server / NAS for game servers for Minecraft, ark and V rising I tried using proxmox and virtualising everything which I couldn't get running properly due to the GPU then I tried TrueNas Scale which sort of worked but containers would never finish deploying and virtual machines created did not seem to want to start with the D500's, so I decided on trying ubuntu desktop as I don't really need to run too many services and just wanted to get some game servers running to offload them from my gaming machine and have them up 24/7 for a small group of friends, the trouble I'm having is ubuntu installs correctly but then it takes literal days to boot, left it on from 9am yesterday morning after setting it up and it was still chugging along at 12 today with no sign of booting just a ubuntu logo. is there something I have to do to get ubuntu to run properly on this machine? I saw something about a "nomodeset" switch in grub which I tried to no avail. I have no intention of running macOS on this machine and just want to get a server setup could anyone suggest either another OS which might work out of the box or a fix for my current predicament? cheers
